The path to becoming a professional pilot is largely academic, and there are many publications that you will need to become familiar with. The PTS reference links are a good place to start. A thorough review of the handbooks and many advisory circulars (ACs) will not only give you confidence on your checkride, but will put you on the track to becoming a safe and proficient aviator. 
    AOPA’s Air Safety Foundation has been developing interactive, online courses aimed at increasing safety and providing education for pilots. The courses are free, and qualify as credit in the WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program. Links to these valuable courses have been provided throughout the site.
